Huawei has repeatedly denied the claims.

"Whether such an approach can prevail in Canada in the face of USA pressure is the question for us, as it is for Britain and Europe", Wark said Monday.

Despite today's reports, the official findings of the NCSC investigation may not be made public for some time, with a DCMS spokesperson telling the FT that the review of 5G security is "ongoing".

What are the security concerns over Huawei?

Still, three of Canada's partners in the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing group - the United States, Australia and New Zealand - have forbidden the use of Huawei products in 5G network development, though the US ban is limited to government agencies - at least for now.

Despite US pressure - and similar moves by New Zealand and Australia - the United Kingdom says that it has no plans to cut Huawei technology out of 5G networks.

China's government has accused Washington of trying to block its industrial development after Vice President Mike Pence said Chinese tech giant Huawei and other telecom equipment suppliers are a security threat.

The conclusion, reached by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), would "carry great weight" with European leaders, the Financial Times reported, citing a source. The U.S. has accused her of fraud and violating global sanctions against Iran, which she and Huawei have both denied.

Robert Hannigan, former head of the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ), the United Kingdom signals intelligence agency, recently wrote in the FT that blanket bans on Chinese tech companies like Huawei make no sense.

The U.S. Justice Department last month unsealed charges against Huawei, its chief financial officer - who had been arrested in Vancouver - and several of the companies' subsidiaries, alleging not only violation of trade sanctions but also the theft of trade secrets. It will be up to the country's government to decide whether to take the NCSC's advice on board.

Britain's National Cyber Security Centre admitted last summer that it had concerns about the engineering and security of Huawei's networks.
