Defiant Serena Williams vows to continue to fight against sexism

Ramos handed Williams a point penalty later in the night after she slammed her racket down, breaking it.

Commenting on the conversation between Serena and the umpire Carlos Ramos, Osaka said: 'The crowd was really noisy, so I really didn't hear.

The tennis star was very fair play after her defeat in front of Japan's Naomi Osaka at the U.S. Open Women's Final.

Ramos's decision to hand a code violation in the second game of the second set sent Williams into a rage as she stormed to his chair and said: "I don't cheat to win!"

Seemingly motivated by the violation, Williams went on a mini-run to take a 3-2 lead, but her momentum was stymied after Osaka produced a critical serve break.

MARGARET COURT, the 24-time Grand Slam victor Serena Williams is aiming to emulate. But it was clear the moment took some of the shine off the win as Osaka looked more devastated than delighted when she was presented with the $3.8 million winner's cheque and trophy.

After the match she became emotional when trying to explain to reporters why she apologised after the match for doing what she had set out to do.

Former Australian netball captain Liz Ellis told Sports Sunday that Williams may have tarnished her legacy after her epic meltdown. She has had a series of run-ins with officials at the Open, the Grand Slam event that she has won six times but that she has also been eliminated from four times in matches with contentious officiating. "Maybe it didn't work out for me, but it's going to work out for the next person".

"I've never seen anything like it since I have been watching tennis".

The 23-time Grand Slam victor also made reference to an incident last week at Flushing Meadows when French player Alize Cornet was warned for removing her shirt on court during a heatwave.

They had spotted a blank wall ideal for their poster, but the hard bit was going to be getting it up there undetected. He shared a video showing the evolution of the prank on YouTube as well.

Williams was cited for the verbal abuse for calling him a "thief". While Williams was adamant that she never receives coaching, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, acknowledged afterward that he did try to signal Williams, but didn't think she had seen him.

"In what was a blatantly racist and sexist move, tennis umpire Carlos Ramos unfairly penalized Serena Williams in an abhorrent display of male dominance and discrimination".

Williams addressed Osaka's bittersweet win in her post-match presser.

"There are men out here that do a lot worse", she said, "but because I'm a woman, because I'm a woman, you're going to take this away from me?"

Within minutes, instead of trading blazing ground strokes with Osaka, a 20-year-old born in Japan who grew up idolising her, Williams was having a heated conversation with the tournament referee. This is a grand slam final'.

"She is one of the most exciting players on the tour".

"I know she was frustrated by the way the game ended, but the way she took a step forward after the final and gave Naomi all the credit says a lot in her favour", she added.

Under Article III, Section P, "verbal abuse" is defined as "a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive". How many other men do things?

"For all the tournaments, bar the Grand Slams, coaches can come onto the court at the change of ends to speak to their players".

"If they can't adhere to the rules then they will have to allow the coaching because we can't have things like this outburst anymore".
