Friday morning, the company revealed its chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, had resigned as of Tuesday, citing intense public attention.

Bloomberg reported on Friday that Chief People Officer Gaby Toledano would not return from a leave of absence just over a year after joining.

The interview took place in California, where both medical and recreational use is allowed, but it is still illegal on the federal level.

Musk's representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk has admitted that running an electric vehicle and energy company like Tesla is exhausting, and in an interview with the New York Times last month, Musk stated that anyone who could do a better job can take over for him anytime.

Tesla is under extreme pressure to turn a sustained net profit starting this quarter, as promised by Musk.

During the course of his interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk made a number of outlandish claims while smoking weed and drinking whiskey with the host. "There's a skill set that needs to be added at the top that Mr. Musk doesn't have".

According to the lawsuit, filed on Thursday in San Francisco federal court, false and misleading information, issued by Musk, harmed short-sellers and those believing Tesla's stock price would rise.

Rogan's podcast is known for being choppy and focused on a wide array of topics, but Musk's appearance was particularly wild, as the two went from discussing ancient weaponry to talking about the CEO's new electric plane design. That tweet prompted controversy and an SEC investigation.

During the show, Musk said he "almost never" smoked.

Rogan described it as marijuana inside tobacco, and asked if Musk had ever tried it.

On the same day that the podcast was published, two executives announced their resignations from the company.

It's not the first time Musk has been asked about weed in recent weeks.

Musk did not directly address the suit during the Rogan sit-down. "I don't find that it's very good for productivity", he said. "As a result, this caused me to reconsider my future", Morton was quoted as saying in a company filing.

Musk has repeatedly expressed concerns about the dangers of unrestrained development of artificial intelligence but says his push for a more cautious, regulated approach has been "futile".
