The storm reached new heights Tuesday when President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort was convicted by a jury and Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to separate felonies.

"This is an investigation that has led to many convictions, where Paul Manafort was convicted on eight counts yesterday", Donnelly said.

"Unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to "break" - make up stories in order to get a 'deal'".

Trump says he shouldn't be impeached because he's doing a "great job".

Allies of the president stressed an untested legal theory that a sitting president can not be indicted - only impeached. "I demand the highest standards, and where they are not met, I take action". "Thirty, 40 years I have been watching flippers".

In an interview with Fox News aired on Thursday, Trump said he paid Cohen out of personal funds and the payments were meant to resolve a personal matter, not to benefit his campaign.

"But", he countered", if somebody defrauded a bank, and he's going to get 10 years in jail or 20 years in jail, but if you can say something bad about Donald Trump, and you'll go down to two years or three years, which is the deal he made".

That tool "almost ought to be outlawed". However, in a September 2016 tape recording released by Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis, Trump can be heard discussing with Cohen whether to buy the rights to McDougal's story from AMI.

Trump did not say whether he would pardon Manafort, but expressed "great respect" for him and argued that some of the charges "every consultant, every lobbyist in Washington probably does".

Cohen had said Tuesday he secretly used shell companies to make payments used to silence former Playboy model Karen McDougal and adult-film actress Stormy Daniels for the goal of influencing the 2016 election.

Trump then said the hush payments were financed with his own money - to which Cohen had access - and that while he had no knowledge of them at the time, he had since been fully transparent. Trump also boasted about the state of the economy since his election.

Under the U.S. Constitution, presidents may be removed for "treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors".

It is the party's main argument to voters ahead of elections in which Democrats are expected to regain control of one, and possibly both, houses of Congress in November.

The Trump campaign denies its involvement and claims that anyone could have purchased the website at the time for as little as $7.
