Scenes like these unfolded over and over again in Chicago over the course of a long, exceptionally violent weekend in a city that has recently seen some progress in reducing shootings and gun deaths.

He said in his tweet that 228 shootings and 42 homicides had been recorded in about three weeks in Chicago just between January 1 and 24, 2017.

Officer Hannah Warren, a spokeswoman for the department, said police could not immediately confirm the numbers but would be conducting a news conference later Sunday. Police said two gunman got out of a white Impala and shot four people at a block party in the 1600-block of South Avers Avenue at about 12:02 a.m.

Police said that before the particularly violent Sunday, there were six shootings, none fatal, on Friday, and 15 shootings, one fatal, on Saturday.

At least 71 people were shot, including 10 fatally, over the weekend in Chicago, marking a chilling spasm of violence for a city that has struggled with murders and shootings in recent years even as the national homicide rate hovers near historic lows.

In answer to a reporter's question, Johnson said no arrests had yet been made in any of the dozens of shootings over the weekend, though detectives have promising leads on a number of them.

The shooting with the most victims left eight people wounded in a South Side neighborhood after a group of men walked up to the eight people standing in a courtyard and opened fire, the Sun-Times reported.

Rana Kapoor, MD & CEO, Yes Bank: The RBI rate hike is a rational response to the recent acceleration in inflation momentum. In other words: when inflation is steady at the Bank's 2% target and the economy is running at its maximum speed limit.

"Don't think for a moment people don't know who in the neighborhood was responsible", he said. Giuliani falsely stated that there were "63 murders" in Chicago this weekend, despite the reports that 63 were wounded and 11 killed. Johnson echoed that, saying there are often people who know who pulled the trigger but don't go to police.

"What we saw this weekend, it just rips at everything that I believe in", Johnson said of the bloodshed. "[Former] Policing genius [Garry] McCarthy can do for Chicago what I did for NYC".

"They take advantage of that opportunity and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit", Waller said, according to Tribune.

The most intense burst of violence began just after midnight.

Ford said he was not opposing Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) outright, but clarified that the president should not consider the city a "Trump-Free Zone" - which Emanuel declared it in 2017. He called on Chicago residents to hold themselves accountable to fight the violence as they do the police, the mayor and the city council. NY recorded fewer than 300 murders in all of past year.

He also said more than 5,500 illegal guns had been confiscated from the city's streets.
