House Republicans to Question FBI Agent About Anti-Trump Texts

President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday about former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Lisa Page's to testify before Congress.
Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., said FBI lawyer Lisa Page must provide answers about statements she made in texts between herself and FBI agent Peter Strzok, as part of House committees' investigation into bias at the Justice Department.
Strzok was the lead agent on both the probe of Clinton's mishandling of classified information and the counterintelligence investigation of alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. Both were removed from the Mueller probe a year ago after the Justice Department's internal watchdog made the special counsel aware of the anti-Trump messages.
After the meeting, conservative House Freedom Caucus leader Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, said that the committee planned to give Page two options to comply with the subpoena: Appear for a closed-door interview later this week or testify alongside Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok at a public hearing scheduled for Thursday.
There was, however, one crucial document Page lacked before her planned appearance-the testimony of Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok.
Page's attorney said that she and Page did not have enough time to prepare for the meeting, and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was less than accommodating when they went to go over materials had been given to Congress. If she doesn't, the Republicans said, they will initiate the contempt process at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
He is scheduled to appear again in a public hearing Thursday morning.
"All she is asking is to be treated as other witnesses have under the Committees' own rules", said her attorney, Amy Jeffress, in a statement to CNN. "As a result, Lisa is not going to appear for an interview at this time". But a subpoena to testify before Congress is not optional.

A report by the Justice Department's internal watchdog released last month detailed the texts between the two, including an exchange in which Strzok said, "we'll stop it", in reference to a potential Trump election win.
The president has repeatedly painted Mueller's investigation as a tainted witch-hunt led by Democrats.
"Americans across the country are alarmed at the bias exhibited by top officials at the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it is imperative Congress conduct vigorous oversight to ensure that never happens again".
In one message on August 8, 2016, Strzok reassured Page that she needn't worry about Trump winning the White House.
It appears neither Page nor Strzok have had access to a transcript of the deposition.
As the committees have investigated bias at the Justice Department, they have focused much of their ire on Strzok.
Strzok was questioned by Goodlatte's and Gowdy's committees for 11 hours behind closed doors on June 27.
Members of the committee, especially Republicans and Trump defenders, had hoped to have Page's testimony before Strzok appears publicly on Thursday.
