  • 'Roseanne' cancelled after Barr makes ’bad joke’ about Obama aide

A guest on MSNBC's Morning Joe and the show's co-host called Roseanne Barr and President Donald Trump, who the fired sitcom actress supports, "stone cold racists", a day after ABC canceled Roseanne due to the star's culturally insensitive Twitter rant.

Barr, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump who has previously used Twitter to voice hard-right and conspiracy theorist views, has been dropped by her talent agency ICM amid a wave of public outrage over the tweet. "You guys make me feel like fighting back", she wrote Wednesday (May 30). "Will I ever recover from this pain? omg", she tweeted later. In one tweet, she admitted that her assumption was "ignorant of me for sure".

Arnold said the whole situation could have been prevented if someone took Barr's phone away.

News of Roseanne's cancellation came from Dungey, who said in a statement, "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have made a decision to cancel her show".

They say ABC's issue is that the characters in Roseanne were created by Barr and Matt Williams, and if the sitcom carried on without her she would still rake it in.

John Goodman and Roseanne Barr attend the premiere of ABC's "Roseanne" at Walt Disney Studio Lot on March 23, 2018 in Burbank, California. "He said: what were you thinking when you did this?" She has since returned online and posted more tweets and retweets, including re-posting fans' defence of her.

She likened Valerie Jarrett - a former aide of Barack Obama - to an ape and accused her of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood political party on Twitter, and later claimed that her use of the prescription drug Ambien was to blame for her post.

"Losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labelled a racist over one tweet - that I regret even more" she said. Hours later, however, Barr was back on social media, lashing out at colleagues sharing their views on her racially charged comment.

"I'm not a racist, I never was & I never will be", she also wrote.
