Soggy Alberto churns inland, spreading rain widely

  • Alberto will continue to lift north today bringing locally heavy rain and a low threat for tornadoes to east central Florida

There is a chance for showers and even a thunderstorm on Wednesday, but the coverage and intensity are expected to back off a bit around Charlotte as compared to recent days with the mountains likely seeing the most concentrated rain. Some may produce heavy rain with a small chance of being strong.

The pelting rain soaked the uniform and socks of Lt. Andy Husar with the Bay County Sheriff's Office, who watched surf get kicked up along Panama City Beach on Monday.

A historic Florida blues club that has been recognized for its role in the South's music history was significantly damaged after a large oak tree fell on its roof after Alberto hit the region. Memphis, Tennessee-based The Blues Foundation has given it a Keeping the Blues Alive award. The amount of crude that leaked was unknown but government media said 12,000 cubic meters of contaminated wastewater have leaked since Monday. This storm will bring the risk for rain and thunderstorms. Authorities say about 20,000 people had been evacuated, mostly in provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos.

The big, messy storm caused more than 25,000 power outages in Alabama, many of which were caused by trees rooted in soggy soil falling across utility lines.

It left 6,540 customers in Florida without power, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

In one letter dated February 18, they wrote: "Michael, here is $1100 from us to you so you can find a place to stay". A 30-year-old man has been ordered out of his parents' home after they took legal action against him.

Alberto will probably weaken through Tuesday as it moves northward to the Tennessee Valley and then into the Ohio Valley, finally withering into a "remnant low pressure storm" by Tuesday evening, with winds around 25 miles per hour (40 kph), Roth said.

But while forecasters said the subtropical depression could dump as much as 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain inland, few major problems were reported so far.

The United States' first named storm of the season - Subtropical Storm Alberto - made landfall on Florida's Panhandle on Monday (May 28), officials said.

USA forecasters said rain could still cause risky flash floods in the coming days in northern Alabama and large areas of Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas.

Authorities did not directly attribute any deaths or injuries immediately to Alberto.
