Local fire and rescue officials said that they were responding to a "mass casualty incident" Monday morning at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, which serves as a state prison for men.

Riots that killed seven inmates and injured 17 others at Lee Correctional Sunday night all began with territory, contraband and cell phones, according to an initial investigation. The official cause of death will not be determined until after the autopsies.

SC Corrections Police Services and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating.

He said no officers were wounded. Four inmates were killed by a pair of prisoners in the state's Kirkland Correctional Institution a year ago.

In Monday's press conference, McMaster said Stirling has led the battle for the whole country regarding prison signal jamming.

Police urges protesters to stop blocking streets
The election of Mr Sargsyan to the presidency in 2008 was met with demonstrations, with protesters alleging vote rigging. Nikol Pashinyan called on friends and relatives of the detainees to block streets and avenues of the capital city.

No officers or staff members were among those killed or harmed, the department added.

Despite those efforts, some numbers are unrelenting. The prison in Bishopville, S.C., about 60 miles northeast of Columbia, houses about 1,600 male inmates.

"While security cameras can not replace uniformed positions, the presence of such technology will enhance the safety and security of our institutions by allowing observation of areas inadequately staffed due to the lack of uniformed positions".

The agency said the cameras could help in preventing inmate escapes and "other criminal or unauthorized activity within an institution".
