Allegiant Airlines customers outraged after 60 Minutes report

  • Allegiant plane in the air

True. There have been no commercial airline fatalities in the United States of America since 2008, but "60 Minutes" reported many mechanical failures on Allegiant.

The report also said Allegiant experienced more than 100 serious mechanical incidents between January 1, 2016 and October 2017.

You may have flown through Allegiant Airlines, which has flights between Toledo Express Airport and a number of vacation destinations in Florida.

A 60 Minutes report says an accident is overdue.

You probably have used this airline to save money, but a bombshell report says it could be one of the most risky airlines in the country. An internal memo to employees, confirmed by Allegiant, said that the company is "prepared to fight back against '60 Minutes.'" Allegiant is also responding to Twitter posts by asking for private messages to "share our concerns about the story".

Allegiant Air shares fell Monday in the aftermath of a news report that is raising serious safety questions about the low-priced carrier. Despite that, much of the flying public seems to be unaware of the airline's record, correspondent Steve Kroft said.

Bill Nelson is calling for an investigation into the FAA for its reported handling of an Allegiant Air's poor safety record.

Aldean just released a new music video for his song, "You Make It Easy", which was shown in a movie format. David Boreanaz, Ashton Kutcher, and Nancy O'Dell are among the Hollywood star presenters.

A spokesman for the airline, Vice President of Operations Eric Gust, called the 60 Minutes presentation "irresponsible" and "grossly misleading". "Thanks to these professionals, flights out of OGS are operated safely and efficiently using the newer Airbus A320 aircraft".

Allegiant is known for low-priced, no-frill flights. The MD-80, according to the report, makes up 30 percent of the Allegiant fleet, and most of those planes were bought "second-hand from foreign airlines".

We caught up with customers at the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport catching a flight to Florida Monday evening.

Allegiant Airlines believes the report was based off of "out dated statistics".

It says Allegiant had more than 40 in-flight emergencies or unscheduled landings in 2016, and is nearly four times more likely to experience a mid-flight breakdown than Delta, United or American airlines. She said she had a positive experience, despite her worries about Allegiant's safety.

Gust went on to say, "Allegiant complies with all FAA requirements and participates in numerous voluntary safety programs to ensure we operate at the highest possible standard".

In addition, Bahrami said the FAA ongoing evaluation of the airline's safety compliance has not discovered any significant or systemic issues with Allegiant's current operations during its 2016 audit of the airline. In fact, two years ago it had four times as many mid-air breakdowns as any other airline. We'll get you up in the air as soon as possible.' As we started taxiing, everything was going OK and then as soon as the wheels came up, the engine blew.
