  • Kevin Love felt a pain in his stomach and shortness of breath before he realized he was having a panic attack. The 29-year-old five-time All Star had never experienced such an episode

Love, 29, the star forward for the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers, suffered the panic attack in the third quarter of the November 5 game against the Atlanta Hawks and led to a stay in the Cleveland Clinic, wrote.

Kevin Love first became aware that he was struggling with something just this year, right after halftime in a game against the Hawks on November 5th. Love, 29, said that was part of his inspiration to open up about his own mental health.

Suddenly, all the things that drew me to the school triggered a feeling I'd never experienced. That's why I didn't realize until after I finished reading Love's Players' Tribune piece that tears were streaming down my face.

"I was having trouble catching my breath", wrote Love. Really I was just hoping my heart would stop racing.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Cavaliers All-Star Kevin Love has opened up about his panic attack this season and his struggles with mental health.

"Everyone is going through something that we can't see", he said. I knew that much.

Call it a stigma or call it fear or insecurity - you can call it a number of things - but what I was anxious about wasn't just my own inner struggles but how hard it was to talk about them.

Iran Says No Missile Talks Unless West Destroys Nukes
Ahead of his visit, Le Drian said Iran should address "concerns" over its ballistic missile program or risk new sanctions. Le Drian also met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif .

Not only did Love have a good reason for the events that led to the team meeting but he has one that allows the team to rally around him and further his standing as a team leader. 'Now, at my age, I understand how many people go through it. "I want to share some of my thoughts about my panic attack and what's happened since".

"For 29 years, I thought about mental health as someone else's problem", Love wrote.

Look, I don't want to speak above my non-existent qualifications here, but I know this.

"I was running from room to room, like I was looking for something I couldn't find", Love said. I think he could sense something was wrong. I flourished in spite of my anxiety, had a blast, made the girl that was by my side from the first attack my wife and somehow turned my passion for basketball into my career.

On the other hand, not everyone is completely understanding of mental-health issues - especially in professional sports, which Love examines in his article.

Love's expose detailed everything from symptoms, a need for closure after unexpectedly losing his grandmother and the shame he battled after the panic attack. I remember when I was two or three years into the league, a friend asked me why National Basketball Association players didn't see therapists. But I didn't share - not to my family, not to my best friends, not in public.
