Geneva Motor Show: Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept

  • Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo concept

This time, however, there will be no waiting to get behind the wheel, because as early as 2019, the production version of the current-carrying, nearly five-meter-long cross-utility vehicle should be on the road, which could be risky for USA electric auto giant Tesla. 100 km/h blasts past in 3.5 seconds, 200 km/h in 12 seconds. Now, we're seeing the company's vision of a more rugged sister to the Mission E - the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept.

On Tuesday, Porsche introduced Mission E Cross Turismo at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The concept features 20-inch wheels with relatively modest 275 section tyres. The lithium-ion batteries can be charged for a range of around 250 miles in just over 15 minutes according to Porsche. This new Mission E Cross Turismo Concept is basically the antithesis of those old-school Porsches. The vehicle would also be compatible with inductive charging technology. However, a series model based on the Mission E sedan has been green-lighted, so a Porsche crossover EV could be in the company's plans as well.

Those looking to take the auto off-road will tip their hat to Porsche for equipping the Mission E Cross Turismo with adaptive air suspension with height adjustment, all-wheel steering, torque vectoring and dynamic chassis control.

When it eventually arrives, its sub-3.5-second 0-62mph time, acres of interior space and likely range of over 300 miles means it'll be going up against the Tesla Model X as well as the all-new, albeit slightly slower and presumably less costly Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV. The system tracks eye movement and places one of five instrument stacks - Connect, Performance, Drive, Energy and Sport Chrono - in front of the driver.

Manchester City title runaway a surprise for Pep
They remain alive in this season's competition but must find a way past Barcelona at the Nou Camp next week to reach the quarter-finals.

Despite being just a concept vehicle, the Mission E wagon/crossover looks almost production ready, featuring a massive panoramic infotainment touchscreen stretching across the entire width of the dashboard. There are also touch sensitive controls on the centre console and steering wheel. The Porsche lettering illuminated in white is embedded in a three-dimensional cover with a circuit path graphic.

The rear seats also have ski port hatches built in for hauling some skis to a favourite piste, and large items can be stowed by folding the seats entirely.

Adjustable straps in the cargo area can secure gear and create two load levels. It combines sportiness and everyday practicality in unique style.

Reiterating Blume's comments that the Mission E Cross Turismo was created as a feasibility study, Mauer adds it will be useful "to find out if this vehicle has future potential". The headlamps distinguish the Cross Turismo as a Porsche E auto, while also doubling up as an air intake.
