  • South Korea sends envoys to North Korea

While a senior North Korean official said the door for dialogue with Washington is open, during his trip to Seoul last week, state media reports have recently asserted the regime is "not begging for talks", rejecting Washington's precondition of committing to denuclearization.

The US has said it would be willing to meet with North Korea but has always insisted that Pyongyang eventually abandon its nuclear weapons program as part of any talks.

Seoul and Washington are expected to resume their postponed military exercises in early April, leaving the Moon administration a month-long window to bring the North and the United States to the discussion table, as Pyongyang sees the drills as a rehearsal for an invasion.

Senior North Korean officials, led by Kim's sister, visited South Korea during last month's Winter Olympics.

North Korea on Saturday lambasted the USA for attaching preconditions to any dialogue between the states, as Seoul prepares to send an envoy to Pyongyang to help open talks on easing the nuclear stand-off on the peninsula.

While that's not enough to fully fund North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, it certainly doesn't hurt.

Lee, a conservative Republican, said the measure can help Congress reassert its power over foreign policy decision-making. Under the Constitution, Congress - not the president - has the authority to declare war.

"We will neither beg for dialogue nor evade the military option claimed by the United States", a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman told the KCNA.

"There had been no case at all where we sat with the USA on any precondition, and this will be the case in the future, too".

Around seventy percent of the responders felt that the nuclear programme did not give the citizens a sense of national pride, while 72 percent thought it did not make North Korea a prosperous country, the Yonhap news agency reported, citing the research. "And I said, 'So would we, but you have to de-nuke, you have to de-nuke'". But the North Koreans pulled out of the planned session before it could happen.

"I said, so we, too, want to talk, but you will first get a nuclear weapon", said Donald trump.

The previous day, Trump warned the United States would hit the North with "fire and fury" if Pyongyang repeated threats that it would strike American targets, Trump took to Twitter and appeared to signal he is prepared to use nuclear weapons against North Korea if conflict breaks out.

Representatives from the North and South held extensive talks in the days surrounding the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics hosted in Pyeongchang.
