  • Dapchi Girls: Hold Army, Police Responsible …-Dogara …As FG Lists Details Of Missing 110 Students ….Army Speaks

In the wake of the abduction, Ibrahim Gaidam, the Governor of Yobe State said the withdrawal of the military from Dapchi town was responsible for the Boko Haram attack and abduction of female students from Government Girls Science Technical College. Teachers resumed classes a day after Nigeria's government for the first time acknowledged the number of girls missing, but students were absent.

"Of the 110 missing girls, eight are in JSS1, 17 in JSS2, 12 in JSS3, 40 in SS1, 19 in SS2 and 14 in SS3.

The Minister of Defence will also lead a Federal Government delegation to Yobe tomorrow, to ascertain the situation".

"Governor, Ibrahim Geidam is the Chief Security Officer of Yobe State and his statement can not be taken lightly as he has indicted the Nigeria Army as the cause of the adoption", Adewole said.

Mr. Mohammed said the Nigerian Air Force had flown 200 hours while conducting the search at 6.00 p.m. on Monday.

Boko Haram fighters opened fire as they drove into Dapchi, which is in Nigeria's Yobe state, on machine-gun mounted trucks.

In a statement by Deputy Director, Public Relations, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army explained that it only redeployed those troops from Dapchi to reinforce those at Kanama following attacks on troops' location at the Nigerian - Nigerien border.

"The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to a statement being circulated to the effect that 100 NAF aircraft had been deployed in search of the missing Dapchi girls".

State police, Yobe government and others had given different figures while a parent representing families of girls who disappeared on Friday told Reuters 105 were missing.

On Friday, parents and locals in Dapchi said they had been left vulnerable to attack because soldiers had been withdrawn in the last few weeks.

"This was on the premise that Dapchi has been relatively calm and peaceful and the security of Dapchi town was formally handed over to the Nigeria police division located in the town", he said.

Recall that the military on Monday stated that it handed over to the police for protection of the area before the incident occurred.

"There are ways and rules guiding hand-over of troubled territories to another security sister agencies".
