  • 'I'm not a terrorist' - Wanted Syrian Kurdish leader speaks out

Prague's Municipal Court ruled on February 27 that Salih Muslim, former co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), be released despite Turkey's request for his extradition.

A Czech court ruled that Muslim, who was detained in Prague over the weekend at the request of Turkey, be released despite Turkey's call for his detention pending an extradition request.

Until past year, Muslim was in the leadership of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the driving Kurdish political force in northern Syria.

When asked by reporters on Tuesday if Turkey is "violating the United Nations ceasefire" in Syria, US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said that she would "encourage Turkey to go back and read the United Nations resolution".

Mr Muslim denies the allegations against him and says he does not take the arrest warrant seriously.

Those villages, the closest to the Turkish border, provide a land corridor between two different enclaves held by Turkey-backed FSA rebels, the city of Azaz and the corner of the Idlib Province. "Everyone they don't like, they claim are terrorists", she said.

Miroslav Krutina, Muslim's lawyer, told Al Jazeera that they were satisfied with the ruling as the judge did not consider it necessary after hearing the arguments to retain the custody of Muslim during the judicial process.

Muslim said he had not yet decided where he would go next, but said he had permission to reside in EU-member Finland.

"Municipal Court's decision, the Czech Republic violated none of its worldwide and legal commitments, including those linked to the European convention on extraditions", the Foreign Ministry said.

The Turkish police and gendarmerie special forces entered the Afrin region to prepare for urban warfare, Deputy Prime Minister and government spokesman Bekir Bozdag said Monday.

According to the agency, Kurdish YPG units attacked the Turkish military, which resulted in losses from the Turkish side.

Moreover, the Turkish interior ministry had offered a bounty of almost Dollars 1 million on Muslim, who is listed as one of the "most wanted terrorists" in Turkey.

A Turkish court charged Muslim with "breaking the state and country's unity" and other offenses.
