Transgender wrestler from Euless Trinity wins 2nd state title

  • Mack Beggs of Euless Trinity defeated Chelsea Sanchez of Morton Ranch to defend his Class 6A girls 110-pound title during the UIL State Wrestling Championships

"Even though I was put in this position, even though I didn't want to be put in this position, even though I wanted to wrestle the guys, I still had to wrestle the girls".

Last year Beggs was the subject of a lawsuit surrounding his decision to continue to fight in female competitions, and it seems that the situation he is being placed in is unfair on both him and his competitors. His steroid therapy treatment while wrestling against girls set off a debate about transgender rights and competitive fairness a year ago. Beggs posed. "I can tell the state Legislature to change the policy, but I can't tell them to change it right now".

"Beggs is a girl wrestler doping testosterone", she said. The girls he [she] wrestles with, they are tough.

Though he has repeatedly asked to wrestle in the boys' devision, Beggs is forced to wrestle girls because, under University Interscholastic League rules, athletes must compete in the gender division that corresponds to their birth certificates.

It was done to help schools determine competition, said Jamie Harrison, the UIL's deputy director.

"It definitely felt different", Beggs told the Dallas Morning News, describing her experience of winning her second title.

Mack Beggs is a person in a very unusual position.

'Torture parents' David and Louise Turpin face further abuse charges
The children have reportedly agreed to testify against their parents should the case go to trial . David Turpin is additionally charged with one count of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old.

McNew would not make Beggs available for interviews ahead of the state meet.

Many parents have been outraged to see their daughters wrestling someone who, effectively, has the strength of a young man.

Beggs has taken the criticism in stride, saying that wrestling "all comes down to technique and who has the most heart", he told WFAA, according to USA Today. "It also shielded him [her] from possible social media attacks and the insults that are sometimes shouted out from the stands or from other competitors".

Parents are reportedly concerned about the safety risk of their children competing with an athlete on steroids, with more than one opponent forfeiting against Beggs. That didn't stop me from being who I was.

The opposing coach and teammates had insisted the girl wrestle Beggs, but she refused, McNew said.

The match was the last of Beggs' high school career.

In the past, Beggs has publicly said he would love to wrestle boys-and would do so, if not for the state athletic policy.
