  • US Embassy in Montenegro Warns About 'Active Security Situation'

The embassy was closed at the time of the blast.

The US State department confirmed what it called "a small explosion near the U.S. Embassy compound" in a statement.

A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said the man was Dalibor Jaukovic, 43, who was born in the central Serbian town of Kraljevo but lived in Podgorica.

At 00:30, in front of the @USEmbassyMNE building in #Podgorica, #Montenegro an unknown person committed suicide with an explosive device.

A suicidal bombing has hit the U.S. embassy in the Balkan state of Montenegro, after the attacker carried out an offensive in a crowded place using a hand grenade.

Police block off the area around the US Embassy in Montenegro's capital Podgorica on February 22.

The news site Portal Analitika said the man's motives for throwing the grenade towards the embassy were not yet known but are being investigated.

The US Embassy in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica on Thursday warned its citizens of an active security situation.

SC ruling against Nawaz Sharif to make him stronger, say political analysts
In the verdict read out by the chief justice, it was also stated that a party's presidency is directly related to the parliament. While on the other side, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he and his was being victimised in the name of justice.

The newspaper also said that Jaukovic, a resident of Podgorica, was born in Kraljevo, a town in Serbia, "and was, judging by his Facebook posts, opposed to Montenegro's membership in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation". In a Facebook post in May, Jaukovic said "no to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation". Officers came to the scene after receiving reports about two explosions and found a lifeless male body in the area of the Moraca river that runs through Podgorica, the statement said.

Last year, it became the 29th country to join North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

In a post later on Twitter, the embassy said, "Following our internal review, Embassy at Podgorica confirms all Mission personnel are safe and accounted for following the incident early this morning".

The embassy canceled all services on February 22 and issued a security alert warning US citizens to stay away until further notice.

Police guard the entrance to the United States embassy compound in Montenegro's capital Podgorica.

The US established diplomatic ties with the tiny Balkan state in 2006 after it split from much larger Serbia.

Also we will remind, in September 2017 in Montenegro unknown shot in the head killed a player in training.

The government has accused several Serbian and Russian citizens of plotting a coup in 2016 parliamentary elections, claiming they planned to assassinate the prime minister and install a pro-Russian leadership to halt Montenegro's bid to join North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
