  • Student flushes emotional support hamster down toilet after airline refuses to allow rodent on flight

Aldecosea said she called Spirit twice before her flight from Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale confirming that it was okay for her to bring her hamster on the flight.

A college student is claiming she had to flush her hamster down a toilet in a Baltimore airport after a Spirit Airlines employee told her they wouldn't allow it on the plane.

A spokesman for Spirit acknowledged the airline mistakenly told Aldecosea that Pebbles was allowed on the flight. A Spirit staffer, she claims, suggested she either let the hamster free outside, or flush her down a toilet. Each time, an airline representative told her the hamster could fly with her, a Spirit spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider. "It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet", Belen told The Miami Herald. There were also, according to Aldecosea, no rental cars or buses, and she spent hours trying to solve the problem. 'I was passionate. I was crying. "I sat there for a good ten minutes crying in the stall".

She is now considering filing a lawsuit against Spirit, blaming them for allegedly pressuring her into killing the animal.

After the incident, Aldecosea said she emailed Spirit Airlines to complain and the airline offered her a free flight - which she declined.

"I didn't have any other options", she told the Herald.

She called Spirit ahead of time to ask whether Pebbles could accompany her on the flight, Goodman said.

Missing a flight can be quite a hassle for your average passenger, but for Pebbles - an emotional support dwarf hamster owned by Belen Aldecosea - it was downright deadly.

Belen insisted she considered other options like auto hire or taking a coach, but was left with little choice. The girl stuck her living, breathing, little fluff ball of a hamster in a toilet in the airport bathroom and flushed her straight to her grave.

The airline refused to allow Dexter to get on board the aircraft, despite the passenger going so far as buying the huge bird its own ticket for the flight.

"This was a highly stressful situation and people react in a lot of different ways", he said. After agonising over the decision for a while (and considering hiring a auto to drive to Florida) she did the unthinkable: she flushed Pebbles.

She says on both occasions she was assured her furry companion was fine to fly.

She is said to have contended that she had a privilege to expedite him board as her passionate help creature. "It was a frightful situation, and she's still distraught". "No one would have probably even known it was there". Dexter survived the dispute with airline staff and was driven to his destination in Los Angeles the following day. Most major carriers such as American, Delta and United, however, don't allow rodents over concerns about safety and health.
