The Nintendo Switch Labo Is Unlike Anything We've Seen Before

The Nintendo Labo pre-orders are now available on Amazon here.

Here's how it works: "With each Nintendo Labo kit, kids can transform modular sheets of cardboard - specially created to interact with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers - into creations called Toy-Con".

A second kit, called the "Robot Kit", lets you assemble your own cardboard exoskeleton to control a virtual robot. That said, though, these will presumably be part of the next Toy-Cons sets that Nintendo officially announces.

But despite the similarities, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says that this is definitely not Nintendo's answer to VR. Fold, build and play with the coolest peripherals conceived with Nintendo Labo. Every Toy-Con creation presents exciting challenges and varying degrees of complexity, making each one a unique experience.

By using characters that appear on-screen, Nintendo is able to explain the principles behind each creation in a child-friendly and easily understandable way, letting even the youngest of kids pick up on the basics of engineering and coding. Once you've built them, though, you can bring them to life with your Nintendo Switch.

The first two sets are due for release on April 20th 2018.

This is par for the course for the Switch, which was released targeting a different market segment than games consoles manufactured by Sony and Microsoft.

The initial iterations of Nintendo Labo will come in two kits: The Variety Kit and the Robot Kit.

For example, you can plug the console's controllers into the vehicle, and it will move around thanks to the controllers' vibrations, responding to users' input from the Switch's touchscreen. Materials to construct two RC Cars are included.

Titled Korg Gadget and jointly developed with Detune Ltd., the latest version of Korg's production studio software will rank as the first of its kind to land on Nintendo's hybrid console.

"It's video games, robotics, and Lego all in one".

They can turn the Switch into a fishing rod, a steering-wheel, and even an intricate mechanical robot suit which gamers can use to play bespoke mini-games. According to The Verge, the Joy-Con's infra-red camera can see the keys and detect which ones are being pressed. Leaning your body or turning the handlebars left and right controls the motorbike. It reminds me a lot of those viral videos where people make hands out of cardboard and bands, but these actually assist you in playing games. It also has knobs for tweaking the output and creating new noises, and you'll dock the Switch right into the little paper piano.

YouTube is making it harder for small-time creators to make money
Google Preferred videos comprise around five per cent of all videos that are uploaded on YouTube globally, according to Google. On the 20th of February all channels that do not meet the new requirements will no longer be able to earn money on YouTube .
