As of today, if you're paying the monthly rate for Amazon Prime in the United States, expect to pay $12.99 during the next billing cycle beginning on February 18.
Amazon is jacking up the prices of its Prime membership monthly plan by almost 20 percent.
Beginning Feb. 18, existing Amazon Prime Monthly and Prime Student members looking to renew their memberships will pay the increased rate.
The new fee will be $12.99 a month, up from $10.99, but customers may also opt for an annual membership of $99, which is unchanged. The company did say earlier this month that it shipped more than 5 billion items via its Prime service in 2017.
Annual Prime members continue to pay $99. But it's clear that Prime is the backbone of Amazon's e-commerce engine and it's being forced to carry ever more weight.
