Technology brands including Intel and IBM have been quick to jump into the social conversation with a tongue-in-cheek brand approach after a blackout struck the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Companies affected by the outage included LG, Samsung and Sony, The Verge reports, along with tech start-up firms that "paid thousands of dollars to have a presence on the massive show floor". Some meeting rooms in South Hall also lost power.

The Consumer Electronics Show was shut down briefly due to a blackout.

During the brief power outage, tweets about the event started trending with the hashtag #CESBlackout.

"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers", the CTA, Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority and NV Energy - which provides electricity to the Las Vegas Convention Center - said in a joint statement.

"We are working hard to restore this temporary power outage at the LVCC [Las Vegas Convention Center]".

Health department offers free flu vaccine - while supplies last
However, some have chronic health problems and the flu can lead to complications ranging from moderate to life-threatening. Ruth Gratton, manager of infectious diseases at the health unit, said that number is not unusual for this time of year.

The power failure followed heavy rain on Tuesday, which had forced Google to shut one of its booths located in the LVCC's auto park. Initially, some folks seemed on edge-especially given past events in Las Vegas-but so far it just seems that the trade show finally succeeded in overloading the Las Vegas power grid.

It had been the city's first rainfall in 116 days, and had marked the wettest January day on record for the area, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper. Intel had a tongue-in-cheek announcement for a product called "Blackout".

CES is now in its 51st year.

Some companies still managed to do demos on their charged laptops and other devices, while others, such as Samsung, had limited backup power.
