  • In this Monday Jan. 8 2018 image made from a video provided by KATC-TV middle-school English teacher Deyshia Hargrave is handcuffed by a city marshal after complying with a marshal's orders to leave a Vermilion Parish School Board meeting in Abbeville

Noting that class sizes had grown, Hargrave told the Vermillion Parish School Board that it was "unspeakable" and "absurd" that the superintendent was getting a raise "when teachers are working this hard, and not even getting a dime".

Hargrave later raises her hand and when called on again asks a question about the issue of teacher salaries and pay raises.

Deyshia Hargrave, the teacher arrested at last night's Vermilion School Board meeting, has been charged with resisting an officer and entry/remain on premises after being forbidden according to the Abbeville Police arrest report. A teacher's union lawyer is investigating, and while teachers were at work Tuesday, a School Board member says there is talk of a strike.

A Louisiana teacher was forcibly removed from a school board meeting and arrested after saying that pay raises for leadership on the board was a "slap in the face" to all teachers.

So when Hargrave was called on a second time, a city marshal stepped in and escorted her to the hallway.

He also added that the marshal who arrested Hargrave is a school officer employed by the school board who was "not acting in any official capacity on behalf of the city of Abbeville".

Trump moves back his 'Fake News Awards,' citing high interest
In an email to his supporters on December 28, the Trump campaign sought nomination for the "King of Fake News" trophy. Trump frequently rails on the media and accuses reporters and networks of being "fake news".

From there, she was forced to the ground and handcuffed.

Hargrave responded: "I am not, you just pushed me to the floor!". She has since bonded out.

The superintendent said that the board would not press charges against Hargrave, but records showed that she was booked in jail, KATC reported. The way that females are treated in Vermilion Parish, I have never seen a man removed from this room.

Hargrave then raised her hand.

The board member said what was on the agenda was the superintendent's new contract and members of the audience answer back, "with a raise".

The National Education Association reported that Louisiana saw the largest decrease in average public school teacher salary between 2014 and 2015, with the average salary for the 2015-2016 school year coming out to approximately $47,000.
