  • Coalition blames 'technical glitch' as Houthi rebels claim downing of Saudi jet in Yemen

United Nations undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, Mark Lowcock, who approved the allocation on Friday, said there must be reduction both in fighting on the ground and airstrikes, which have greatly intensified in recent weeks. He said the new funding will go toward the most vulnerable people in 27 districts at risk of starvation, and to other areas where conflict has recently escalated.

Earlier Friday, Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi said the rebels in Yemen must immediately stop all crimes committed against politicians and civilians.

The Houthi rebels, who are believed to be backed by Iran, stormed Yemen's capital Sanaa in September 2014.

Saudi Arabia claims that the kingdom's air defences intercepted the ballistic missile over Najran, while the Houthi's announced that the "successful" firing hit its target with 'high accuracy'.

HP Recalls Computer Batteries After Reports Of Overheating

A Yemeni military source told Iran's Press TV, on condition of anonymity, that the fighter jet was targeted on Sunday evening as it was flying in the skies over Kitaf wa al-Boqe'e district in the country's northwestern mountainous province of Sa'ada, Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported.

Saudi Arabia is the only country operating Tornadoes in the region, according to Al Masdar News.

Forces loyal to President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi's government captured most of the district in heavy fighting with the Houthis last month. Tehran denies arming Yemen's rebels in the war with Saudi Arabia.

More than 8,750 people have been killed since the coalition intervened, according to the World Health Organization.
