United States announces suspension of security assistance to Pakistan

  • 039;A ruler surrendered in a single phone call our country we went through the worst bloodbath,' said Asif about the military dictator Musharraf

"No amount of coercion can dictate us how to continue", he said.

He said despite longstanding USA allegations against Pakistan allowing militants to operate from its territory, the two countries have a lot to build on, including Islamabad's efforts to stay on democratic course and continue its fight against terrorists against all odds.

That question was also raised at the State Department briefing on Monday when a reporter pointed out that the U.S. praised Pakistani cooperation in recovery of Canadian-American couple a few months ago and now it is criticising the country. But at the time, he provided no details as to how the USA would pressure Islamabad. He reiterated longstanding allegations that Pakistan gives "safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan". "Yet, success against terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan and the region requires a change in Pakistan's policy of support for such groups", he said.

Sanders said Trump was taking all these steps because Pakistan had failed to fulfill its obligations in the fight against terrorism. We expect Pakistan-and we've made clear, and the President has made clear in the past also through his new strategy that was announced back in August about the Asia-the new Asia strategy-that the United States expects Pakistan to take decisive action against the Haqqani Network and other militants who are operating from its soil.

Pakistan has expressed "deep disappointment" over the United States statements, saying the accusations strike with "great insensitivity" at the trust between the two countries.

And so, in a single tweet Trump has allowed Islamabad the moral high ground in its inevitable break up with Washington; given a frail civilian government much needed ammunition for a pretentious show of strength, in turn giving it a route to sharing the stage with the Army leadership; and allowed Pakistan to rid itself of responsibility of the many decades-long howlers that the state has been trying to dig itself out of.

The United States is likely to announce "suspension" of some financial assistance to Pakistan soon, as speculations swirl about impending punitive action by the Trump administration that has suddenly dialled up the rhetoric on a client state ungrateful of billions of dollars it has received in aid.

Will Climate Change Leave Chocolate Out of Menu by 2050?
As if there wasn't already good enough reasons to care about how we treat the planet, this catastrophic effect certainly is. Over portion of the world's chocolate now originates from only two nations in West Africa - Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana .

"Let it come", army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor had told reporters, referring to Trump's decision. "Pakistan shall do whatever is best in the national interest".

"We have already told the U.S. that we will not do more, so Trump's "no more" does not hold any importance ..."

The ambassador said the U.S. should not shift the blame for their own mistakes and failures onto others.

That Pakistan has suffered mammoth losses, and paid irreversible human cost, in the past couple of decades is an undeniable reality.

Several news outlets report that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will hold a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss Trump's threats and accusations, and another meeting with his National Security Committee (NSC)-which includes leaders of the army, navy, and air force, as well as intelligence chiefs and other ministers-to discuss "deteriorating USA ties".

Pakistan was not paid $300 million of $1 billion under CSF in 2015 and $350 million of $900 million in 2016 because the administration could not certify Pakistan and indeed taken decisive action against the outfit, which is at the heart of U.S. anger with Pakistan, described as "deceit" by the president recently.
