  • 3 Army soldiers killed at Keri along LoC

The soldiers belonged to the 120-Infantry Brigade Battalion, and were on patrol when the incident took place.

A defense spokesman said that Pakistani troops targeted a patrol party in the Brat Galla area of Keri sector at around 12.30 pm in the afternoon.

There was no immediate comment from Pakistani authorities. Meanwhile, the army said in a statement that Indian soldiers have responded silently.

"Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh were grievously injured during the ceasefire violation and succumbed to injuries".

"Pakistani soldiers violated the 2003 cease-fire accord by targeting Indian posts in Rajouri sector", Indian army said in a statement describing the firing incident as an "unprovoked cease-fire violation".

"The martyrdom of Indian soldiers will not go in vain", the defence spokesman said.

Officials said maj Ambadas, 32, was from Bhandara district of Maharashtra and is survived by his wife Avoli, reports Hindustan Times.

Other soldiers killed were 34-year-old Lance Naik Gurmail Singh from Amritsar, Punjab, who is survived by his wife Kuljit Kaur and a daughter, and 30 year-old Sepoy Pargat Singh of Karnal, Haryana who is survived by his wife Ramanpreet Kaur and a son.

"Major Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail and Sepoy Pargat were fearless and honest soldiers".

The deceased have been identified as Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Launce Naik Gurmail Singh and sepoy Pargat Singh.

The Pakistani firing on Indian posts came on a day when J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was in Rajouri to meet locals, as part of her public outreach programme. Bad days are in store for Pakistan.

In the past, the Indian army has blamed a combination of the Pakistani army's border action team and militants for carrying out operations along the Line of Control.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh paid rich tributes to the slain soldiers and condemned Pakistan for the ceasefire violation. Ceasefire violations along the LoC in 2014 and 2015, for instance, stood at 153 and 152, respectively, while the tally was 228 a year ago.
