  • Vivo smartphone beats Apple and Samsung to the punch with new tech

The Clear ID fingerprint sensors are designed for smartphones with bezel-less infinity displays that incorporate a button-less experience, Synaptics said.

Of the technology, Patric Moorhead, in his post says, "This sensor is actually a CMOS image sensor, less than 0.7 mm thick, similar to what a camera uses".

It's an innovation that had reportedly been hotly pursued by Apple for its latest flagship device, the iPhone X, which launched in November.

In-screen fingerprint sensors have been considered as a natural evolution of modern biometric sensors as the smartphone displays this year moved to an edge-to-edge concept. The in-display sensors work with wet, dry, and cold fingers, and can unlock devices including while it's sitting on the table, at any angle, or while in a vehicle mount.

Atlanta airport power outage impacts MLU passengers
This morning "five flights were diverted to Miami and Tampa because of our fog", said airport spokeswoman Victoria Moreland. With no announcement system working, and few uniformed airline employees available, they said they did not know what to do.

Just days after Synaptics announced the mass production of its in-display fingerprint sensor with one of the "top-five" smartphone vendors, it has now been revealed that Vivo is working with the company to build the advanced experience on a mass level. According to analyst Patrick Moorhead, the sensor as "fast and simple", while Synaptics claims it's twice as fast as 3D facial recognition like Apple's Face ID. News emerged yesterday that the manufacturer would be Vivo, rather than one of the other four alternatives i.e., Apple, Samsung, Huawei, and Xioami. The technology, named Clear ID, comes with a fingerprint scanner below the display, which can be used to unlock the phone. This time, the company has gone with human interface technology company Synaptics, and the results are more positive than ever. "The sensor is also sturdy-both scratchproof and waterproof since it is protected by glass". "It is big for Synaptics, but even bigger for the smartphone industry and consumers". Meanwhile, reports also suggest that Synaptics will demo Clear ID at CES 2018.

We have been hearing that Vivo is likely to launch a smartphone with fingerprint sensor integrated into the display.

Synaptics is planning a demonstration for January 2018 on a full-production, soon to be announced "tier one" customer phone.
