Argentina star Lionel Messi is anxious about the threat posed by the Super Eagles to his country's chances of reaching the second round of the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup.

Lionel Messi has defended Gonzalo Higuain, claiming the Juventus striker is one of the best in the world and deserves to be in the Argentina squad.

"I have come to understand that the season is long and that some periods are more important than others", he explained during an interview with TyC Sports.

"I have a family and my children come first, and then me".

Messi was out of contract in the summer but has now signed a new Barcelona deal, as Guardiola had predicted he would. "They're very different", revealed the 30-year-old.

People want results and if they don't get them, they want to see fresh blood.

While it has been a shock to see Messi out of the starting line-up, the player himself is convinced that it is for the best as he looks to reach the end of the season in top condition.

Governor to call election to fill Conyers' seat
Ian Conyers did not go into detail with the Times on the allegations against his family member, but said he would stand with him. She said that one time, when she was at Conyers' home, he came out of the bathroom naked when he knew she was in the room.

But Messi believes he should be recalled in time for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"We have had some good games, or good spells under Sampaoli".

Argentina have been drawn in Group D at the World Cup alongside Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria.

"But it's true that we need to improve if we want to be world champions".

At one point it looked as though Messi may not be at the 2018 World Cup even if Argentina did qualify after he announced his global retirement in June 2016 after a second successive Copa America final defeat to Chile.

"The bitterness we feel is because we know what's coming if things don't go well for us".
