Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee company, will open a 30,000 square-feet store in Shanghai on December 6.

China has become Starbucks' second largest and fastest growing market, and one the company expects to eclipse the US market one day. Customers at the cavernous new outlet on the West Nanjing Road shopping strip can watch beans being roasted, sample high-end brews and use a Starbucks augmented-reality digital app to interact with the store. Yet the Reserve Roastery is quite unlike any of the existing 3,000 Starbucks stores throughout China, offering immersive coffee- and tea-focused experiences throughout multiple stories.
Starbucks is now building more net new company-operated stores in China than the USA, said CEO Kevin Johnson, who replaced CEO Howard Schultz in April when the longtime leader transitioned into the role of executive chairman.
