Roy Moore: woman caught making false claims against would-be senator

  • James O'Keefe

It also alleged that Washington Post reporters saw the woman walk into the NY offices of Project Veritas.

Of course, that's not what happened. A GoFundMe account in Phillips' name was found, centering on her move from Alabama to NY "to combat the lies and deceipt of the liberal MSM". Conservative websites like Gateway Pundit have helped spread this story, as they retweeted a (now-deleted) Twitter account alleging WaPo offered $1000 for information.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump claimed in a presidential debate that new videos proved that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had "hired people" and "paid them $1,500" to "be violent, cause fights, [and] do bad things" at Trump rallies - a claim based on videos released by O'Keefe that purported to show pro-Clinton activists boasting of their efforts to bait Trump supporters into violent acts. "It's just so much emphasis on what he said and what he tweeted". It's always a lot of "Why did she wait so long?" After some communication back and forth which mostly revolved around "James" requesting promises of protection, they agreed to set up a meet.

Now, O'Keefe's group is targeting the Washington Post, a publication that Trump has repeatedly denounced for its critical coverage of his administration.

All too often, the tendency is to doubt the victims - and, perhaps for this reason, the Washington Post was very thorough in the reporting of its original Roy Moore story. The math alone says they're different, so why do so many people keep assuming that they're basically the same thing?

Best news about Atlantic hurricane season? It's finally over
It's tied for the ninth most-active season since record-keeping began in the 1850s, and was the most active season since 2012. There were 17 named storms this season with 10 reaching the status of hurricane and six being classified as major hurricanes.

The Post, during fact-checking, caught on to the sting.

Project Veritas - a United States non-profit organisation set up by conservative activist James O'Keefe - is accused of trying to trick the Washington Post into publishing a story about Roy Moore. The number of sources that the reporters interviewed before publishing the story alone should have been enough to know that some faker wouldn't be able to get through without facing problems. The victor, said Mr. Trump, will receive the fake news trophy.

Among the key points he revealed was that when the Washington Post changed its tagline to "Democracy Dies in Darkness" shortly after the elections, the phrase was selected by Bezos. The intent by Project Veritas clearly was to publicise the conversation if we fell for the trap. Its opinion section is liberal, and therefore the newspaper must be defeated at all costs.

Bee, who questions the man's motives, also mentions that the interview is being recorded before proceeding to ask him what made him apply for the job, to which he responds, "It's like I said, I saw that show, you did that one time on the television, and I took all 37 UCB's improvisation classes, and thought maybe you would hire me, and bring me onto your staff". In far too many circles, a devotion to tribalism has become far more important than a devotion to the truth - and when we're talking about something as gravely serious as victims of childhood sexual abuse, I couldn't be more sick about it.
