  • Shoppers take advantage of early Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving at Macy's at Lenox Mall on Thursday Nov. 28 2013 in Atlanta

Multichannel shoppers spent about $49 more than those shopping only in-store, and $82 more than those shopping online.

The NRF doesn't estimate total sales for the weekend, but said average spending per person over the five days was $335.47. The trade group said Tuesday that the shopping data reaffirmed its earlier prediction that total sales this holiday season would increase by as much as 4 per cent over a year ago.

The only big recent shopping day where online sales may have exceeded store sales was Cyber Monday, Storch said. For the first time in the U.S., Cyber Monday mobile revenue has broken the $2 billion barrier, according to Adobe Digital Insights. And Shay noted that with 24 of the top 25 e-commerce retailers hailing from the brick-and-mortar world, traditional retailers are growing their share.

Commerce marketing firm Criteo said that 40 % of Black Friday online purchases were made on mobile phones, up from 29 % from previous year.

And that's OK, said Matthew Shay, CEO of the National Retail Federation.

"Among our top 100 retailers, many brands saw the highest consumer engagement with Cash Back Offers, including American Eagle Outfitters, Express, and Staples", said Tarleton. Two out of three retailers made adjustments to their promotional strategy for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and where we observed retailers changing their promotions, more than half of the deals were of better quality than those offered in 2016.

Burnley vs Arsenal: Confirmed lineups - Shock as Mesut Ozil dropped from squad
Arsenal head into the Burnley clash at Turf Moor following impressive win over Tottenham in the North London derby last week. When you see how hard it is to score against them it's a big result, you'd think that many clubs will drop points here.

Millennials, who are often one of the trickiest consumer groups for retailers, were big spenders this past weekend. Roughly 64 million shopped both in stores and online.

According to the latest data from retail intelligence experts Springboard, footfall figures across United Kingdom high Streets, shopping centres and out of town retail parks were down 1.1% during the whole Black Friday weekend.

And almost a third of Cyber Monday purchases were made on a mobile device, according to Adobe.

The top-selling items on Cyber Monday, according to Adobe, included the Nintendo Switch game system and Hatchimals Colleggtibles figurines, which are popular again this year with children. The fact that shopper visits outlasted intact on Black Friday demonstrates that physical retail is still highly appropriate and when done right, it was profitable.

Firearms merchants dangled Cyber Monday deals on guns and accessories, with discounts on ammunition from Cabela's, scopes from Dick's Sporting Goods and, from Bass Pro Shops, an Armalite M-15 Defensive Sporting Semi-Auto Rifle for $649.97, marked down from $799.99.

Adobe said Cyber Monday is expected to beat $6.6 billion in internet sales, which would make it the most vital US online shopping day in history yet. "This year, mobile shopping was dominant both in the morning and afternoon, and desktop only staged a comeback in the evening when people were home".
