What I would ask, as an avid Whovian, is that iTunes and the BBC, please, please, please release more Classic episodes onto iTunes from any of the Doctors incarnations.

Namely, a famous unfinished 1979 episode written by sci-fi stalwart Douglas Adams of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fame, "Shada". However, filming for the episode, which was supposed to be the end of the 17th series of Doctor Who, came to a halt.

Mr Baker played the time lord for seven consecutive seasons, making him the longest-serving Doctor. However, due to strike action at the BBC, production was interrupted halfway through and never resumed.

Baker, who starred as the fourth doctor between 1974 and 1981, will return to the role for a brief cameo, with the rest of the episode completed using a combination of voice acting and animation. On the 23rd, the BBC tweeted a video of Tom Baker wishing Doctor Who a happy birthday, where he called himself the "happiest" of Doctors.

To complete the journey back to the past, the producers of "Shada" filmed Baker in a recreation of his TARDIS, shot the scenes on vintage 1970s cameras and even got hold of a model of the Doctor's faithful dog K-9 to boot.

Tom Baker returns to Doctor Who to finish lost 1979 episode

"When I was doing Doctor Who it was the realization of all my childhood fantasies...so I took to it like a duck to water and I still do", Baker revealed.

Baker has played the role of the Doctor in audio plays and made his last on-screen appearance as the Time Lord in 1993 "Children in Need" special.

"That's why I can't stay away from it, it was a lovely time of my life", he said.

A two-disk DVD is scheduled for release in the United States on January 9 (you can snag a region-free Blu-ray via Amazon.co.uk as early as December 4).
