President Donald Trump and Time magazine are in disagreement over the mag's upcoming "Person of the Year" cover.

Time defended the controversial decision by saying the award is given to "the person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year".

The US president wrote on Twitter on Friday: "Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named 'Man (Person) of the Year, ' like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot". He says he told the magazine that "probably" isn't good enough, and he would pass on the opportunity.

"Amazing. Not a speck of truth here-Trump tweets he "took a pass" at being named TIME's person of the year", Murray tweeted, along with an article about the incident. The image, however, is a fake; no such issue of the magazine exists.

United States charges alleged HBO hacker
Beware of heart Attack!" The alleged hacker broke in to United States broadcaster HBO's computer system and demanded a ransom in Bitcoin.

Richard Stengel, a former Time editor, responded by tweeting: "Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you're NOT Person of the Year".

In a tweet late Friday as he spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida, Trump sounded dismissive of the honor he received a year ago and could well receive again. "The mag frequently includes photo spreads and interviews with several "finalist" type people, not just the person". I'm not proud of my recent perm and have interpretive dance class at the interview time so I turned it down!

Trump's Friday tweet quickly became a target of seething Twitter satire. John McCain, R-Ariz., Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, Pope Francis and women who have shared their stories about being sexually harassed or assaulted using the hashtag #MeToo.

A public "Person of the Year" poll is also taken into account.
