The Saudi Arabian government has allowed humanitarian aid to enter the strategic Yemeni port of Hudaydah in addition to resuming United Nations flights to Sana'a airport after announcing it will ease the military blockade on Yemen.

The coalition has given clearance for U.N. flights in and out of Sanaa from Amman on Saturday, involving the regular rotation of aid workers, said Jens Laerke, spokesman of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

United Nations officials welcomed the move, albeit cautiously, as it was not clear whether humanitarian missions into Yemen would be allowed to return to pre-blockade levels.

The commercial blockade is aggravating the food crisis, "leading to a significant increase in child deaths from acute malnutrition and preventable diseases", it said in a statement.

He says that "at a time of starvation and a time of cholera, it's very important" to keep all aid channels open. He also said the world body has "made clear the tremendous amount of needs on the ground".

The coalition sys the United Nations and worldwide relief groups have demanded the coalition allow full access to hubs in Yemen so that humanitarian aid can reach those that desperately need it.

Aid group Save the Children welcomed the coalition's announcement but said opening the port and airport would be "nowhere near enough to avert a potential starvation in Yemen".

"Humanitarian relief only provides a small portion of the essential goods needed in Yemen - commercial supplies are critical to feed the population and keep basic services running", it said.

"Sending a missile in the direction of Riyadh is really very bad". The missile was struck down but it was the farthest a projectile by the rebels, also known as Houthis, had penetrated into the kingdom.

In response, the coalition ordered all ships to leave the ports at Hodeida and Salef.

The airport had been open to only select humanitarian flights.

The International Rescue Committee on Wednesday said the closure of Yemeni ports by the Saudi-led coalition as part of its fight against Houthi rebels creates "humanitarian misery for millions of Yemenis".

The Hudaydah region is controlled by the Houthi armed group, which the Saudi-led coalition was invited to neutralise by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in March 2015. More than 2,200 people have died.
