Hariri touched down at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport after stopping over in Cairo where he held talks with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Lebanon's Naharnet news reports.

"It was a 45-minute meeting which was requested earlier today through diplomatic channels", Cypriot government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides told Reuters of the meeting between Hariri and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has refused to accept his resignation until he returns to present it in person.

Hariri is now in Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.

Aoun went far in considering the resignation forced on Hariri by the Saudis and that he was kept under house arrest, accusing the kingdom of committing an act of aggression against Lebanon.

Banks, PSUs too upgraded; may improve access to foreign funds
Moody's pegged GDP growth at 6.7 per cent in FY18 and 7.5 per cent in FY19, with similarly robust levels of growth from FY20. The agency also said that India's growth potential is significantly higher than most other Baa-rated sovereigns.

In Lebanon, the army chief called on troops to stand firm against any attempt to incite strife in the country amid the crisis triggered by Hariri's resignation.

Mr Hariri has close ties with Saudi Arabia. Aoun, a Christian, is a political ally of Hezbollah. It said in its Tuesday edition that French and Egyptian officials discussed Lebanon's future in the Cypriot capital Nicosia on the sidelines of el-Sissi's visit to the European Union member Mediterranean island nation.

Al-Hariri left Cairo for Beirut shortly after the meeting. El-Sissi returned home from Cyprus on Tuesday afternoon.

The resignation sparked a political crisis in Lebanon and put it on the front line of a regional power struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
