Women's Basketball Team Declined Trump's White House Invitation For The Best Reason

  • South Carolina’s women’s basketball squad the reigning national champions finally received their invitation to celebrate at the White House on Thursday but head coach Dawn Staley’s team isn’t going

"The only invitation we are thinking about is to the 2018 NCAA tournament".

OU's national champions in men's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, and softball all visited the White House and got to meet the president and pose for pictures. The White House is holding Collegiate National Champions Day on Friday.

The White House said 18 NCAA teams would be in attendance for a reception at the executive mansion. Since 1983, every NCAA women's basketball championship team has been invited to the White House.

Another Donald Trump White House invitation has been rejected, as the SC women's basketball team declined a very late, last-minute invitation from the president to visit.

Rep. Collins says tax bill he supported today will save taxpayers money
Ending the "death tax" is an article of faith for many conservatives, but doing so creates both fiscal and political problems. Tom Reed, R-Corning, were less essential as other upstate Republicans added their votes to a house tax bill passed Thursday.

The Gamecocks won their NCAA title in April. A team spokesman said the Tar Heels were willing to go, but the university and White House tried "eight or nine" dates and none worked. Coach Dawn Staley said the fact that they STILL hadn't received an invite by September "speaks volumes".

"We won before those other teams won their championships", Staley said.

The fourth-ranked Gamecocks opened their championship defense last week and have won their first three games, including a 66-36 win over Clemson on Thursday ahead of Sunday's home game against Wofford. Her office promised that the invitation would come later in the fall but, by the time it did, Staley and her team were no longer interested.

The South Carolina women and North Carolina men aren't the only two title winners not to celebrate their accomplishment with Trump at the White House.
