  • US senator Al Franken apologises after accusation of groping

Leeann Tweeden, who is a radio news anchor based in Los Angeles, wrote about what she says was her experience on KABC's website Thursday morning.

Tweeden wrote in a 790 KABC column that Franken had kissed and groped her without consent in 2006, when the pair were on tour overseas performing for military service members. As she slept, Tweeden says Franken groped her breasts in a moment that was caught on camera.

Moore, facing multiple accusations that he pursued relationships or sexually assaulted teenage girls, mocked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for calling for an ethics panel investigation into Franken.

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden said Thursday that the Senate Ethics Committee should investigate Sen.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) agreed.

In a statement Thursday, the top Republican said that "with all credible allegations of sexual harassment or assault, I believe the Ethics Committee should review the matter".

McCaskill seems to be referencing Franken's initial statement on the sexual misconduct allegations in which he claimed the picture of him appearing to grope Tweeden "was clearly meant to be amusing".

"I certainly don't remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies to Leeann", Franken says.

"I didn't socialize with him, I didn't talk to him for the rest of the tour", Tweeden told reporters.

"She described how a powerful man in the office where she worked 'held her face, kissed her and stuck his tongue in her mouth", Tweeden wrote. But "I've decided it's time to tell my story".

In her essay, Tweeden said she meant to participate in the comedy tour, hosted by the United Service Organizations, as an emcee. He groped me, without my consent, while I was asleep. Al Franken, Democrat of Minnesota, who a former coworker has accused of sexual harassment. "I think the tide is turning, and what about all the women who don't have microphones and a voice and can say something and it's all over the news?" "What Sen. Franken did is wrong and regardless of political party, sexual harassmen and sexual abuse are unacceptable".

"I felt disgusted and violated", she added. Over the last few months, all of us-including and especially men who respect women-have been forced to take a good, hard look at our own actions and think (perhaps, shamefully, for the first time) about how those actions have affected women. Franken said then that he regretted some of the things he had written, and said he respected women "in both my personal and professional life".

"The apology, sure, I accept it. People make mistakes, of course he knew he made a mistake".
