Veterans stress service to country at West Aurora High School gathering

The assembly wasn't only a tribute to two dozen guests and 15 veterans in attendance, but the hour also was a classroom to educate students the importance of Veterans Day.

The students later broke out into groups meeting with each veteran to hear about their experience one-on-one.

This is the third year in a row Staley students have done this, and the number of kids taking part grows every year.

Wheat Middle School will host its annual Veterans Day Luncheon in the campus library, with students given the opportunity to invite a veteran.

Brown Funeral Home and United Bank were this year's sponsors for the Veterans Day reception and assembly, according to Melonas.

This is the 8 year Lakeland Elementary has performed this ceremony.

Janoris Jenkins' return highlights many Giants moves
The Giants announced on Tuesday that shutdown corner Janoris Jenkins has been reinstated following his indefinite suspension. He was waived on September 2, re-signed on September 28, and was inactive for the Giants' game in Tampa Bay on October 1.

"I think there is far more interest shown. but we all owe a lot to the "Greatest Generation" from World War II", he said.

"Today is really a day about honoring the wide variety of men and women who served our country", Webb said. "We just hope they know we're thinking about them and we appreciate their service".

The event is sponsored by the Custer American Legion but it's the Custer High School Student Council who organize this district wide event. ROTC, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Su Valley Jr/Sr High School Symphonic Choir sang with the Talkeetna Elementary 3rd-5th grade students in the patriotic song, "Stars and Stripes".
