At least 27 thought killed in USA church shooting

  • Report: Multiple injuries reported at a church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Tex.

Police formed a perimeter around the church and flooded its grounds with emergency and police vehicles, according to ABC affiliate KSAT-TV in San Antonio.

Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr. told AFP there were multiple fatalities and multiple people wounded, but he could not officially confirm the number.

During its Sunday morning worship service, a Southern Baptist church in rural Texas became America's latest mass shooting. He opened fire shortly before noon while people were attending a morning service.

Megan Posey, a spokeswoman for Connally Memorial Medical Centre, which is in Floresville and about 10 miles from the church, said "multiple" victims were being treated for gunshot wounds. "The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene", he said on Twitter. Annabelle "was one very lovely, special child", Pomeroy told ABC News by phone.

The FBI has arrived to secure the scene.

The 14-year-old daughter of pastor Frank Pomeroy was killed, the family told several television stations.

A sheriff says that a man walked into the church and started firing. The people of Sutherland Springs need our prayers right now. A sheriff's dispatcher declined to comment on the situation to USA TODAY, saying officials who could provide details were at the scene.

First responders converged on the church in the small town and helicopters are taking victims to hospitals.
