That is, the LA Times reports that over 30 women have come forward with sexual harassment accusations against James Toback, director of a dozen films including The Pick-Up Artist and screenwriter of many more, including both versions of The Gambler. The newspaper interviewed the women, who detailed similar encounters with the 72-year-old director over the years.
The women's stories of their alleged encounters with Toback follow a common outline: Toback would approach a young woman, introduce himself as a film director, and say she was ideal for the project he was working on. According to the women, Toback used his position in Hollywood to set up meetings that "quickly turned sexual".
In the exposé published today, Sunday, October 22nd, the news organization interviewed thirty-eight different women, 31 of whom went on record.
Toback told the outlet he doesn't remember meeting any of the women and denied the allegations. He also claimed to the Times he was medically incapable of such behavior, citing diabetes and a heart condition. Louise Post, the guitarist and vocalist for indie rock band Veruca Salt, said she met Toback in 1987 and went to his apartment. "I felt like a prostitute, an utter disappointment to myself, my parents, my friends", LaValley added. "Going to his apartment has been the source of shame for the past 30 years, that I allowed myself to be so gullible". "I have personally met at least FIFTEEN WOMEN, probably more, who say that he's accosted them in NYC", wrote Gunn in a lengthy Facebook post, which he also shared on Twitter titled "Why I've despised James Toback for over 20 years". "And I deserved not to tell anyone", she said.
Demetz wrote that Toback told her of the story, "If you print this piece, I promise it will be the single thing you regret most in your life".

"And the disgusting thing is, whichever road you choose, whether you sleep with him or walk away, you're still broken, You have been violated", added Rinaldi.
These new revelations follow in the wake of the case of Harvey Weinstein, who is rocking Hollywood and pushes many actresses to openly condemn the practice hitherto passed over in silence in the american industry of cinema. When asked, "paralyzed", if she was trying to stimulate herself sexually, director replied that "Of course" and young girl ran away. In at least three of the incidents the Times reports, Toback allegedly requested the women pinch his nipples and look in his eyes as he came.
Weinstein's been accused of comparable behavior.
James Toback attends the premiere of the movie "The Private Life of a modern Woman" presented out of competition at the 74th Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2017 at Venice Lido.
