A huge crowd showed up for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at Keehi Lagoon Beach Park Saturday morning.

Politicians, breast cancer ambassadors, the clergy, students, teachers, farmers and civil society organizations walked in solidarity for the cure.

Also in attendance was Bonnie Smith, a Mansfield resident and two-time breast cancer survivor.

The event promotes breast cancer awareness and raises funds for the American Cancer Society to advance cancer research.

"We always say our survivors are our celebrities".

"When it affects you it affects more than just you, it affects your whole family". "Not only of your friends, but the entire community to come out and support you".

Wilkerson said she is touched to see people in the community running in the 5K even if they've never been personally affected by breast cancer.

And coming together is what it's all about.
