Earlier, Melbourne's So Oh recorded her second-best major championship finish with a closing 72 enough for her to finish T14 at two under.

"I love competing and I love practising, and staying in bed hasn't been the most exciting", Nordqvist told lpga.com.

South Koreans haven't won on the LPGA Tour in three straight weeks, the longest drought of the season.

"It's really big", the 26-year-old MA native said. I'm in a good position and I am sure it will happen sometime.

Nordqvist and Altomare both shot 66 for 9-under totals of 204.

With bad weather having wiped out the opening day, the Championship has been reduced to 54 holes.

At that point, Ko was at six-under, four shots back of leader Moriya Jutanugarn, but she slowly gained back that ground.

This was the fifth and last major tournament of the 2017 LPGA season.

Anna Nordqvist emerged as victor from a playoff against Brittany Altomare to win the 2017 Evian Championship on Sunday.

Australian Katherine Kirk and Swede Anna Nordqvist are three shots back after shooting 66s with Americans Marina Alex and Jessica Korda and South Korsean In-Kyung Kim another shot back at 4 under.

"When Ariya won the British Open at Woburn a year ago, I finished not long before her and dashed out to watch her play the last few holes", recalled the big sister.

Ariya Jutanugarn won't be playing Sunday when her sister chases history.

Starting with a one-shot lead, Jutanugarn reached the turn two ahead at 10 under but lost her lead when Nordqvist surged. She could well have joined the playoff if not for the double bogey at the par-four 10th.

It was at the par three, 16 where Nordqvist was able to break free of the pack and take the outright lead at 10-under par, but a bogey at the last dropped her back and she was left waiting and watching in the clubhouse to see what the outcome would be.

"A lot of lip-outs".

In comparison, Jutanugarn and Ko could only manage third-round scores of one-over and two-under, respectively, and were unable to withstand the pressure as they just missed out on playoff berths.

No. 1-ranked So Yeon Ryu (71) finished on 2 over, and No. 2 Lexi Thompson of the US missed her chance to take the top spot.

Not content with settling for a playoff, Ko grabbed the fairway wood, and while she avoided the water hazard, her approach landed in the rough to the left of the green.

She steeled herself during the second round.

This time, she is hoping she can hold onto the lead and finally claim her first professional title.

Inevitably a question about the comparisons between her and Ariya came up during her post round press conference.

On the 18th green, Miyazato holed a short par putt then was greeted greenside by Gary Player who presented a bouquet of pink roses.
