Smith's death is just one of several high-profile U.S. cases in recent years in which a white officer killed a black suspect, including the 2014 killing of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson that sparked months of angry and sometimes violent protests.

On Saturday night, U2 were set to perform at St. Louis' Dome on Saturday night, but they were forced to cancel the performance in light of the violent protests that are occurring around the city, after former local police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty of murder in the 2011 shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith.

Owing to a lack of adequate police protection at their performance venue following the city's protests of the Jason Stockley acquittal verdict, the band has chose to cancel this evening's concert.

Authorities closed off several blocks around the police headquarters Sunday afternoon in anticipation of the protests, following two days of nonviolent marches and two nights of violent skirmishes that resulted in more than 40 arrests. The demonstrators retreated down a street, vandalizing businesses.

Hundreds of people turned out for initially peaceful protests after the verdict, but the situation turned violent Friday night, leading police to break up the crowd with tear gas.

United States tourists hurt in French acid attack
Two of the tourists suffered facial injuries and were rushed to hospital after the attack outside a Marseille train station. In August, a man driving a van crashed into two bus stops in the Vieux-Port area, a popular tourist spot.

One 26-year-old female rookie officer suffered a broken jaw after protester threw a brick at her face.

Police also said that 10 businesses were damaged, with mostly broken windows.

Bad news for all of those U2 fans in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area.

Reed said protesters went to Krewson's house because she was not in the streets with the people even though she had expressed support on social media. Mr. Smith had been taken in hunting, after a sale of the drug. Prosecutors said the officer planted a gun in Smith's vehicle after the shooting. Less than a minute later, he shot Smith five times.

"I can feel for and I understand what the family is going through, and I know everyone wants someone to blame, but I'm just not the guy", Stockley told the St Louis Post-Dispatch.
