London underground explosion was a terrorist incident, Met police confirm

An explosion that injured a number of people at Parsons Green underground station in west London was a terrorist incident, the Met police have said.

Photos taken inside a District Line train show a white plastic bucket inside a foil-lined shopping bag.

London police are being supported by Britain's MI5 intelligence service, he said.

Most of the injured people suffered burn injuries.

Commissioner Neil Basu, the senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism policing, declared the blast a terrorist incident.

"Our city utterly condemns the ugly individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life", said London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The investigation is being led by the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism command and involves hundreds of detectives, with support from the intelligence community. Twenty-two people were hurt, according to the BBC, though no injuries have been reported as life-threatening, and Prime Minister Theresa May has stated that the U.K.'s terror threat level will remain at severe.

CST, the security organization of the British Jewish community, reissued security instructions after the attack to report any suspicious objects to police.

According to the Sky News report, an eye witness said that he saw remnants of flash/smoke, "hordes of people" and people "running down the platform" at Parsons Green station.

The police said they are probing the case as a terror attack.

"I heard a loud bang and as I looked to my right, there was a flame, a fireball came through the carriage", he told ABC News.

US President Donald Trump blasted "loser terrorists" behind the latest attack as "sick and demented people" and blamed the internet as the perpetrators' main recruitment tool.
