Texas mother fighting with her son's school over his long hair

  • A 4-year-old boy who has never had a haircut is being barred from attending school until he gets one

A Texas boy who eagerly started school last week was sent home just two days in when officials banned the child from attending classes because of his long hair, his mother said. While the court recognized long hair as socially acceptable on boys, it upheld the grooming policy, saying it did not deprive male students of an equal opportunity to receive an education or to participate in school functions.

Before she could keep in touch with one, school authorities advised her not to return until the point that his hair met clothing regulation rules. On Tuesday, she had to call in sick to her job because Jabez couldn't go to school.

As shown on KTRK's Facebook page, many parents have defended Oates' right not to cut her son's hair.

She adds that Jabez's hair is part of his self-expression.

She said that she was asked for a letter mentioning specific religious or cultural exception. "But as you talk to my son, you understand that he likes his hair".

Gamers will be able to pre-load 4K updates for their existing games onto their Xbox One or Xbox One S console. Microsoft's made the most powerful games console in the world and it costs a whopping £449 (RM2470).

"So I came to school today with his hair in a bun. It's just part of who he is".

Barbers Hill since released a statement on the policy to KTRK writing, 'Our local elected board has established policy based on community expectations, and Barbers Hill administration will continue to implement the said policy'. "Much of this growth has been fueled by those who are seeking a rigorous educational environment of high expectations for their children".

According to the outlet, Barbers Hill school has a strict dress code, which includes stipulations about hair length. "But we would and should justifiably be criticized if our district lessened its expectations or longstanding policies simply to appease". Oates questions, to which the woman replies that it's the school board of Barbers Hill Independent School District that sets the policy.

"To me, that is blatant discrimination against something me and my child believe in", Oates said to the administrator.

Oates said she will continue to challenge the policy she doesn't "believe" in. "I got my son prepared". Young children around the country are excited to be going to school for the first time. "He asked me, 'Mommy why can't I go see my teacher?' 'Mommy, why can't I see my friends?' So we even went inside the school to speak to the principal, but that just made it worse. Now it's just sad".
